One of the highlights of our business journey took place in November, 2022 when our fearless leader and Commander in Chief Corey was named as Young Business Person of the Year, in the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce’s Business Excellence Awards. To say this was a humbling experience would be a massive understatement. This year’s awards saw a record number of submissions – over 800 nominations across 11 categories, and the calibre of businesses in the room was phenomenal.
It was an honour to be able to showcase our company, our work and social impact, but also to be able to recognise Corey’s journey through business – his unrelenting work ethic and drive to change his industry. If there’s one thing we’re passionate about here at Uncommon, it’s learning and with every milestone like this, we learn, we reflect and we grow, ready to take on the next challenge and continue helping those around us.
As an extra special insider treat – here is a sneak peak from Corey’s submission to become Ipswich’s Young Business Person of the Year for 2022.
“As the name suggests, Uncommon Electricians is a pretty unique company. From the day we opened our doors, we’ve done things that have never been seen in a trade company, or possibly any company for that matter. For our launch, we commissioned a custom artwork and story by a local aboriginal artist, integrating the spirit of the traditional landowners with our Uncommon journey. We’ve painstakingly developed and Trademarked a one of a kind Method of Operating: CULTURE-SERVICE-SOUL™, that integrates standards of excellence with our principles of culture and social impact. Our “Uncommon Norms” are nine values that are a living, breathing part of our company, they double as our customer service workflow and key performance indicators. We’ve developed our “Uncommon Kids” initiative, publishing our own children’s book “Tilly Loves Tools” which we give away for free to help the next generation better understand themselves. We also sponsor one Smith Family child for every ute we have on the road. We have grown and scaled our company through what has been, and still is, one of the hardest times the construction industry has ever faced. Personally and professionally, I continue to grow also as a leader, a culture-setter and an industry disruptor. Learning about myself has been my greatest achievement of all and I am proud and excited for the path I am forging, not only for myself and my family, but for everyone out there who has ever been told they couldn’t do it.”
