About Us

Why Uncommon

The vision for Uncommon Electricians was dreamed up by Corey & Shannon while renovating their hundred-year-old Queenslander. A company built on people, values and culture. Redefining what we expect from ourselves, the trade industry and small business as a whole. A workplace with social impact at its core and excellence in its blood. Challenging the status quo, inspiring the next generation. Doing common things in an Uncommon way – welcome to Uncommon Electricians.

Corey

Founder & CEO

From a young age, Corey always knew he thought a bit differently. While other kids were out chasing the latest games and gadgets, Corey was at home designing invoices for his imaginary company. Fast forward 15 years and that dream would become a reality. He’s honest and approachable, friendly and professional. A born leader and a master of his craft. Our clients, our team, our network – we know we’re in good hands with Corey steering the ship.

What makes Corey, Corey: Ice hockey, beekeeping and being a dad.

Shannon’s combination of big picture thinking and attention to detail makes her role as Chief Soul Officer a unique asset within our company. Working also as a speech pathologist, no one appreciates the power of people quite like Shannon. She has a passion for business, culture and leadership. She’s organized and accessible, creative and strategic. A natural storyteller and a way with words.

What makes Shannon, Shannon: basketball, aquariums and being a mum.

Matt

Matt’s calm, professional outlook and detailed oriented thinking makes him stand out from the pack. He has excelled from apprentice right through to manager across his impressive twenty-year career. Humble and honest, a problem solver and an out of the box thinker. A natural leader with a work ethic to match the greats. Matt is an integral part of the Uncommon family and the place wouldn’t be the same without him.

Becoming Uncommon – Our Rebrand

Uncommon Electricians has been in our heads a few years but our hearts a lot longer. While we look back on the Chalk Electrical days with fondness, we always knew we would outgrow it at some point. We wanted to build not just a company, but a brand. Bold, innovative and unique with social impact at its core and a team culture that’s never been seen before. The word hit us like a bolt of lightning – Uncommon. It fits us like a glove and we haven’t looked back since.

CULTURE – SERVICE – SOUL ™ – Our Method of Operating:

Business models are a common part of any corporation. What’s Uncommon is having an original, one-of-a-kind, legally trademarked business framework. Our CULTURE – SERVICE – SOUL Method of Operating embodies what we do and how we do it. It is the foundation upon which we have built Uncommon Electricians and is an integral part of how we approach work, business and life. Learn more about our Method of Operating here.

Uncommon Kids ™

Our Uncommon Kids initiative is possibly our favourite part of the company and a cause very close to our hearts. Sometimes through the eyes of a child, the world can seem like endless stream of boxes to tick, and not every child knows how to tick them. As a society we want kids to learn, but don’t often teach them the most important skill of all – learning about themselves. Through Uncommon Kids, we help children create their own boxes, discover what is unique about them and begin to pave their own path in the world. Learn more about Uncommon Kids here

Awards

While trophies and accolades are not what drives us, we have been extremely humbled over the years, to have received several prestigious awards within our business community.

In 2018 we were fortunate enough to be named as a finalist in the Ipswich Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards. Out of over 200 nominations, we made the top three in the Customer Service category. To say we were humbled would be an understatement. We never thought a hubby and wife team, only a few years in business would be counted as among the best in such a broad and competitive field. Read more about our Customer Service awards experience here.

In 2022, our founder, CEO and all-around top bloke Corey was named Ipswich Young Business Person of the Year for 2022, at the Ipswich Business Excellence Awards. It was the biggest year yet for the awards with over 800 nominations. For Corey to be recognised as an up and coming leader in the business community was incredibly humbling. He is living proof that being Uncommon is a super power. Testimonials

Don’t just take our word for it – see what our past satisfied customers based in the Ipswich area have to say about their experience with Uncommon Electricians:

“I needed an electrician and in classic fashion, I left calling one to the last minute. So glad that I called Corey because was a lifesaver! I had some tight deadlines and he was able to fit me in pretty much immediately and got everything done incredibly quickly. Corey was also just a great bloke to talk to, he really cares about what he does. Can't recommend them enough, I will very much be giving these guys a call anytime I need anything done!”

Robert Wolski, Deebing Heights

“Corey & Matt were amazing! Nothing was too much trouble. Corey was friendly and professional. A complete pleasure to do business with. Matt was wonderful. His workmanship, always on time and txt to say he was on the way. Attention to detail and they really valued the customers wishes and achieved the results we had hoped for. Thanks so much.”

Debbie Evans, Flinders View

“Corey was amazing to communicate on the phone, very professional and listened to what I needed. Matt installed my fan which I was so happy with the work, I would definitely recommend them.”

AnnMarelle Gulliver, Fans, Bellbird Park

“We are so glad we were recommended to contact Corey! He is so easy to deal with. Very friendly, prompt and professional. Corey was able to visualise and give advice with what we were doing with our renovation. We have another property which he has also worked on and so easy to arrange the work to be done. Corey will definitely be our Ipswich electrician from now on!”

Anne Mayerhofer, Ipswich

“Corey arranged for our job to be done urgently as it was important for safety. The job was actually done before my expected date. They gave me frequent updates of the expected date and time of arrival, then arrived on time. Matt was our electrician and he arrived on the worst day of rain in a very wet week. Although most of the job was under cover, he did have to spend time in the rain installing the earth stake. When he finished, his shoes were covered in sticky mud. So thumbs up to Matt for top notch work in difficult conditions.”

Christine Roselund, leichhardt

“Corey's service was fantastic. He was prompt, friendly and did a great job. When I mentioned another little job on top of the one he had been called for he squeezed that into his schedule as well so I didn't have to take another day off work. I cannot recommend him enough. It was the best service I've ever had from tradies. I will definitely get him again to do some other electrical jobs - it's good to have an electrical you can trust.”

Lisa Kelly, Woodend

“Wonderful company! Great communication and fantastic service. Will definitely be using again when needed."

Clarissa List, Moores Pocket

“Corey went above and beyond for my elderly parents, ensuring their safety. The quality of work, customer service, care and concern to ensure my parents are completely safe along with keeping costs low is commendable. A genuine nice young man with great patience and a good sense of humour. Highly recommended!”

Future River, Bundamba

“We had the pleasure of Corey to repair quite a few safety issues at our home today. We were notified when they were on the way, they are friendly and completed the works to a very high standard, costs come in lower than what we were told over the phone for the repairs which we appreciated the honesty. Will recommend them to friends and family!"

Teresa Humanld, Karalee

“Thank you Matt for your work and attention to detail with installing our new oven and cooktop, and for looking at a few other unrelated issue's at the last minute while at our home. Your time was appreciated. See you again soon.”

Gabbi Cliffe, North Ipswich

“Corey is a lifesaver. From the team at Termitrust Pest Control Ipswich thank you for stopping and helping Dani (our office manager) with her flat tyre this morning. It was a small gesture that made a big difference. Thank you!"
